Sada Baby is a 26-year-old American rapper from Detroit, Michigan, who recently released a hit single on YouTube titled “Slide.”

The young rapper has cultivated a following and been dropping bars since 2013. In a three year period, Sada Baby — real name Casada Sorrell — released a plethora of songs and was featured on a number of tracks. By 2016, Sada Baby nearly quit on hip-hop, until he entered a local rap tournament and ended up winning.

Two years and two mixtapes later, he had his breakout moment when his single “Bloxk Party” went viral on the internet. The gritty trap banger was posted on WORLDSTARHIPHOP and has accrued nearly 60 million views since 2018.

On Feb. 1, Sada Baby dropped his latest single on YouTube along with a music video directed by Jerry Production, a 20-year-old videographer based in Detroit who has worked with other notable rappers like Famous Dex, Dej Loaf and Rich the Kid. In just over a month, the video has already amassed more than 3.5 million views.

The video starts off with Sada Baby casually laying down in an ambulance, sipping from a bottle of liquor before sitting up. He then hops out of the vehicle as the beat begins and the intro plays. Sada Baby moves his body side to side while holding a styrofoam cup, chanting “slide, slide, slide, slide, slide, slide” before launching into his verse.

The beat was made by Detroit super-producer Helluva Beats, who has produced for hundreds of local rappers as well as big names like Yo Gotti, Rick Ross and Future. Helluva Beats utilizes a sped up sample of The Gap Band’s 1982 hit song “You Dropped A Bomb On Me.” With the addition of a sharp snare, the beat has a bouncy feel, perfectly complimenting Sada Baby’s off-kilter, gangster rhymes.

Known for his hardcore, grimey Detroit bangers, Sada Baby channels that same familiar style with lines like “Put the .40 on his a--, give a f--- if he duck.” Although the song contains his usual thuggish raps, Sada Baby switches up his flow in certain parts of the song. At one point the snares fade out and Sada Baby adds extra punch to his lines by emphasizing every word before the beat comes back and he starts rapping even harder. Mixing in quick funny bars like “she suck d---, guarantee she eat the nut ten times out of ten I ain’t eat the butt ten more times out of ten she ain’t get a buck.”

As soon as I heard the song, my head automatically started nodding along to the beat, anyone who listens to “Slide” is overwhelmed with an urge to dance. The song overall is a unique banger that displays Sada Baby’s talent and charisma as a rapper.
