To put an end to, in my opinion, one of the best trilogies, “How to Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World” (HTTYD3) had gone above and beyond each one of my expectations, and I was utterly blown away by the ending. The last 15 minutes of the movie had me and my grandma ugly-crying while surrounded by 7-year-olds and their parents; to say I felt like a baby was an understatement.

HTTYD3 is one of the most colorful movies that I have ever seen, rivaling that of “Avatar” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” When the Hidden World was found by Astrid (America Ferrera) and Hiccup (Jay Baruchel), it was beautiful and breathtaking. Sitting in the theater seats, I felt as if I was flying through the glowing rocks and plants, flying with the dragons.

The movie focuses on Hiccup and Toothless and the tear in their relationship, the Lightfury. In the movie, we find out that the Lightfury is used as bait for Toothless, who is a Nightfury, by Grimmel (F. Murray Abraham). Grimmel thought that he had killed all of the Nightfuries, but he then saw Toothless and wanted to “feel adequate.” Grimmel knew that the ‘Furies mated for life, so once he got Toothless hooked on the Lightfury, he would follow her anywhere.

As previously known if you watched all the movies, Toothless lost his tail and was unable to fly without Hiccup. When Toothless found the Lightfury, he was alone and could not fly after her. Grimmel counted on that; he knew that Hiccup and Toothless depended on each other, which is why he planned on separating the two. Hiccup was one step ahead of him though, he sees that Toothless is in love and gives him a new “tail.”

With his newfound tail, Toothless is able to fly alone and chase after his love. After giving Toothless the gift of solo flying, Hiccup naÑ—vely thinks Toothless will return to him.

After waiting for Toothless’ return, Hiccup embarked on a journey to find him with the help of Astrid. When Hiccup finally found Toothless again, my emotions were all over the place. Toothless had to choose one love from the other; the love of a friend and the love of a significant other.

The movie continues with epic battles and losses, but fortunately no one dies other than Grimmel. With an epic goodbye to all of the Berk dragons, Hiccup and Toothless going their separate ways and the long awaited marriage of Hiccup and Astrid, I was left a blubbering mess with wet cheeks and a red face. I thought I was done with the tears, but “How to Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World” finishes with Hiccup and Toothless reuniting years later, both of them having offspring of their own. To finish off the movie, Hiccup and Toothless fly again in all of their glory.
