Rap music has changed from decade to decade. It went from the upbeat rap of the 70s and 80s to the hardcore rap of the 90s. It then went on to the mixture of up-tempo and hardcore rap of the 2000s. The twenty first century has created a new style of rap never before seen, called “mumble rap” and most rappers now have major success with it. Rappers like Migos, Young Thug, Future and Desiigner are all big time players in the mumble rap game. Two new artists are now riding that wave into success.

Atlanta rappers Gunna and Lil Baby are making a major splash in rap, both experiencing success in their own ways. They decided to give fans what they wanted and collaborated on a perfect album. The two released “Drip Harder” and it immediately made an impact on the rap game. The 13-track album only has four featured artists, Young Thug, NAV, Lil Durk, and hitmaker Drake. Lil Durk and NAV were featured on the first song of the album “Off White VLONE.” Young Thug was featured on the song “My Jeans” and Drake was featured on the song “Never Recover.”

The two rappers have very similar, yet different styles of rapping. Gunna makes the catchy songs people are able to dance to. Lil Baby is more lyrical and relates more to people of the street. They are similar because of the beats used in their songs and their rhythmic rapping. That is demonstrated in the song “Business is Business” where both combine to make an upbeat catchy song that shows just how well they work together. Throughout the song you are able to see them bounce off each other and it works perfectly.

The top-rated song of the album is “Drip Too Hard.” You could say the song’s success comes from its release before the album. The rappers released the song weeks before the actual album hit the market. This gave more time for the song to get noticed and therefore lead to its huge success. Regardless, this song is one of the best on the album and it earned the number one song in it.

My second favorite song in the album is “Close Friends.” In this song, Lil Baby goes solo and dives into a deeper more affectionate side than seen before. In the song he talks about a special girl that started off as a friendship leading them falling in love. It was a good side to see from the regularly hardcore rapper, but its still not my favorite song on the album.

Being a Drake fan, I tend to like whatever song he performs. However, this song truly is my favorite song on the album. “Never Recover” is a song featured across clubs all over the world and it really capped off a great album. Lil Baby and Gunna are now growing to superstar levels and it is only a matter of time before the two start reaching international fame.
