On Thursday, Oct. 25 the basement of the Brockport Student Union will be transformed into a haunted hallway. This annual event, will be hosted by Brockport Student Government (BSG) and several other clubs, including men’s club rugby, photography club, hip hop dance club, the PRIDE association, residence hall association (RHA), inter-Greek council (IGC) and Alpha Phi Omega (APO). The clubs will be setting up individually themed rooms in the basement to represent their organization while also trying to scare attendees.

BSG’s Saturday late night coordinators Pamela Fenton and Meghan Ritter will gather the clubs and purchase the necessary materials for the event, according to an email Fenton sent. “The majority of the event is the haunted house, just like any other haunted house” Fenton wrote. There will also be candy and water offered at the end of the haunted house, along with some party safe tips.

The English club will also be attending the event, delivering some spooky stories. The event is put on by student union and activities, according to BSG President, Joshua Matthews. The president of PRIDE, Francisco Martinez, wrote in an email the club was planning to be “both spooky and queer.” Martinez also wrote that Pride was only notified last week, so its involvement has been fairly last minute. The exact details have yet to be worked out, but PRIDE will be finalizing  its plan during Tuesday night’s weekly meeting.

This is going to be a fun and festive way of kicking off Halloween weekend. Between the free candy, spooky stories and haunted hallway, this event should be the perfect way to gear up for the upcoming holiday. Additionally, the safe party tips are really important for college campuses this time of year, since Halloween is a big party night with several parties and bars hosting events especially for the season.

The “Haunted U” will be fun to come out and support the clubs at Brockport, while also seeing how they each portray spooky scenarios. More details about the event can be found on the myBROCKPORT.

Haunted U is not the only spooky themed event happening in the upcoming week. There will also be a spooky waffle bar, which will be the following Friday, Oct. 26, a tarot card reading on the same day and a Dia De Los Muertos decoration session, hosted by ALAS will be held on Sunday, Oct. 28.  Students at the College at Brockport won’t be short of things to do this Halloween season.
