The Brockport Student Government (BSG) provides many different events for the students of The College at Brockport. Each event the club holds provides exciting activites for those who attend. On Thursday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. in Harrison Dining Hall, BSG will be holding an event that will coincide to International Artist Day.

In the spirit of Halloween coming up, Activities Coordinator Hannah Danielski will be bringing the “art” of relaxation to hungry students in Harrison Dining Hall.

Danielski will have a variety of drawing materials at the ready for students who want to show their artistic side. To incorporate the spooky season, she plans to have printouts of Halloween themed adult coloring pages.

Danielski also plans to have a chalk board for those who want to free draw, to venture outside the lines. The chalk boards will allow those who have a creative mind, to express their unique drawings and sketches.

BSG will also be providing its prize wheel, where students will be able to spin it and pick up some BSG chapsticks. Students can win, popsockets, pens, wristbands, credit card holders and many more.

For those who do not want stay and draw, they can take the coloring pages to-go and color and draw in the comfort of their own homes. If the students do not have any supplies to color with, they can take a few of the coloring utensils back with them.

“I am going to have it be a good stress relief for people passing, since it is going to be in Harrison Dining Hall,” Danielski said. “I am going to have a chalk board and printed coloring sheets that are Halloween themed.”

Since Halloween is so close to the event, Danielski plans to incorporate spooky themes coloring options. She plans to catch the attention of students passing through the Harrison Lobby.

October is a month that celebrates art throughout, not just on International Art Day. A month long craze that is popular among those on social media, especially Snapchat, is “Inktober.”

“Inktober” was started in 2016 by Jake Parker who posted a list of prompts for each day of the month. The prompts can be anything from one word like phrase, to a subject like bottle. The only rule is the drawing or sketch has to be in ink.

There are no prizes for the people that enter pictures of their drawings with @inktober or @jakeparker on Snapchat and Instagram. There is a chance that the drawings will be featured on the Inktober stories.

The prompt for October 25 is “prickly,” so those who are interested in drawing can use the BSG International Artist Day event to help their artistic talent shine.

For more information about International Artist Day, students can visit myBROCKPORT or contact Danielski through her email, hdani1@brockport.edu. Students can also visit the BSG Activities Office.
