Dance like no one's watching with BSG

The Brockport Student Government will be holding a night you won’t forget. On Saturday, Sept. 29 from 9 p.m to midnight, there will be a Silent Disco where students can get down and show their energy. They are able put on their best boogie shoes and dance the night away in the Union Ballroom (West) on campus.

Like every other BSG event, students will need to bring their student IDs to gain access. No tickets are required in advance and the event is free. There will be drinks provided, such as water to keep you moving and active, but no food, so make sure you eat prior to the event.

A silent disco is a unique way for people to gather around and dance in a room with glow sticks. Typically, people put on a pair of specially designed wireless headphones. Each headphone is adjustable in volume and can be set to three different stations, which means you and the other people around you can be dancing to completely different music.

You can switch between the music by going back and forth using the dial on the headphones. Each set of headphones has color LEDs that change colors depending on what DJ you are listening to. However, make sure you leave those headphones on, or else it will be silent and awkward and nobody will want to dance with you.

There will be three different DJs playing separate music varying from Top 40 dance hits, hip hop, and throwback music from previous decades. DJ Garrett, DJ Lily and DJ Negative Zero will be pumping tunes into those headsets and battling to steal the attention of partygoers.

The attendance has been successful in previous years and BSG is hoping it will be again. Last year BSG had to compete with homecoming events taking place at the same time.

“Last year when the event was held, it was a rough weekend because it was homecoming weekend and a lot less people came compared to previous years, so the attendance depends. But this year has the potential to be very successful,” BSG Activities Coordinator, Pamela Fenton said.

However, BSG shouldn’t have anything to worry about this year, since homecoming has already occurred.

“The goal of this event is for college students to have a good time in a safe environment because it is a very fun event,” Fenton said.

Every year, when BSG goes through the list of events they will be scheduling, the Silent Disco always ends up on the top.

It will feel like a party and it is super social. There is no need to walk somewhere else in the room to hear your friend or somebody talk to you. All you have to do is turn down the volume on your headphones. There’s no loud music, so no ringing ears! You’re in full control of the music.

If you can’t make it this Saturday, don’t worry. There are plenty of other upcoming fun and entertaining events this semester hosted by BSG.
