Stoneyard Brewing Co. has been a well-known staple in the Brockport community since it opened back in 2008. Its first batch of craft beer, brewed on April 23, 2014, was a batch of Back Porch Crème Ale and was what helped set the company in motion. The Brewing Co. has been working hard to expand their presence, and in 2016, they opened two other locations, one in Penfield that is known as the Stoneyard American Craft Beer Hall & Grill and another known as the Stoneyard Breakfast Co. in the Village of Brockport. 10 years following the opening of the company, Stoneyard is anxiously awaiting the opening of its brewery which will be located at the end of Clinton Street in Brockport.

The original location on Main Street harbored a smaller 2.5 barrel brewhouse. After the move from 1 Main St. to 48 Merchant, the smaller brewhouse was relocated as well and business continues to thrive. The reason for the change was two fold.

“We wanted to be closer to the brewery for one,” Jake Bartalo, a bartender at Stoneyard Brewing Co. said. “For another, it was more practical. We can fit 40 more people and we have a much bigger patio.”

The patio will overlook the Erie Canal and offer a picturesque view of the water and the iconic lift bridge.

This past weekend, The College at Brockport held its annual celebration for Homecoming and Family Weekend. With a parade that snaked through the village of Brockport and a successful victory at the Homecoming game earlier that afternoon, all the local eateries were expectedly filled to the brim. Naturally, there was not a free table or barstool available anywhere in the Stoneyard nor on its extensive outdoor patio. Business boomed late into the night by students, their families and locals. By the end of the night on Saturday, Sept. 15, the bar, having run out of ice and most of its liquors, was only able to serve shots of alcohol and it did not hinder its sales at all.

This is only a single example of the success of Stoneyard. The brewing began Thursday Sept. 6 with a second batch having started Saturday, Sept. 15 in its new 30-barrel production facility. The Everyman India Pale Ale (IPA) was part of the first brew Thursday and is one of three in their flagship series. The rest of the flagship series will consist of their Dr. Ellsworth, a New England IPA and the Bender. As part of the series, these three beers will be offered year-round as they are some of the best known of the Stoneyard brand.

“Everyone wants a new craft beer,” Bartalo said. “Our brewmaster Jeff Osborne, once a chemical engineer, tests out new flavors that will come and go.”

Stoneyard Brewing Co. has both seasonal and annual beers that it plans on keeping around. The official Grand Opening should be sometime in mid-Fall Semester. These first batches will be utilized for kegs and the Brewing Co.

The batches, made closer to the beginning to mid-October, will be canned and then distributed. The goal is to sell these cans in Stoneyard Brewing Co. locations in and will be carried by Wegmans. In addition, it will be expanding upon the 35 bars that they are currently distributing to. Currently, Stoneyard Brewing Co. has a presence in Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester and Albany. The company is working towards its next goal which is to expand to more locations out of state to cities such as Erie and Pittsburgh, just to name a few.
