A local surgeon has been disciplined for a second time by the state Department of Health. According to the Democrat & Chronicle, Dr. Eric Johnson of Brockport has been accused and found guilty of “misdemeanor operation of a vessel under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”

Johnson has been issued a censure, a reprimand and is being fined $1,500. He did not contest the charge, professional misconduct.

As mentioned, this isn’t the first time Johnson has faced discipline by the state Department of Health

As reported by the Democrat & Chronicle, Johnson also faced charges in 2006, and that time was for “gross incompetence, incompetence on more than one occasion, gross negligence, fraudulent practice, false report and failure to maintain records.” He did not contest those charges either, and was put on probation for 36 months and fined $3,000. The charges came from allegations of his care at Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Brockport and Medina Memorial Hospital in Orleans County, as well as from Soldiers & Sailors Hospital in Penn Yan and Lakeside Memorial Hospital for documents he submitted. This probation was in effect until February 2009.

Johnson also faced temporary suspension in 2014 from taking care of injured workers. According to a Board Bulletin from the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board, the Chair believed Johnson may have been guilty of misconduct. This allegation came from a prior incident, when he did not contest charges of driving while intoxicated in Naples.

According to the Democrat & Chronicle, Johnson was also convicted of misdemeanor boating while intoxicated in 2012.

Johnson has been in practice for about 30 years, according to healthgrades.com. He graduated from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York School of Medicine in 1988.

According to the Democrat & Chronicle, Johnson has his practice listed at 59 West Ave., Brockport, with hospital privileges at Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport.
