Living in a world where women are sometimes underappreciated, it’s reassuring that there are still men out there that see women for their true worth and respect them as such. Muhammad Ali Jinnah once said, “No nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you.” Surely the gentlemen of Men of Color can attest to that. These gentlemen are known for showing appreciation for the women in their lives, and this year is no different. The organization is throwing their annual “Treat Her Like a Lady” event. The event is formal and will give students an opportunity to let go of their stress and enjoy a night out. So, the group asks all ladies to pull out the best looks in their closet and be prepared to get swept off their feet. The event will include music, spoken word, poetry, dances, art displays and more.

The event was held last year and the turnout was outstanding. The organization is hoping for the same turnout this year. Men of Color promotion director and sophomore Odalis Herrera will be attending “Treat Her Like a Lady” for the second time.

“The amount of support we received last year was amazing,” Herrera said. “In an event like this it is important to have the whole community behind us.”

The organization needs everybody to support them as they try to achieve their goal of spreading love on campus. The group is also trying to spread knowledge to the gentlemen on campus on how to treat the women in their lives.

“The goal is to show appreciation for girls on campus and around the world. We know that without strong, individual women, this society wouldn’t be anything,” Herrera said. “I am a strong believer that women are the backbones to our society.”

“Treat Her Like A Lady” will take place on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Union Gallery. Students can purchase tickets for this event for just $1, and guests can get in for $2.  Order your tickets now at the box office located in the Seymour College Union or go online to my.brockport.edu.
