The College at Brockport is beginning its search for a new vice president. James “Beau” Willis retired as the college’s President of Administration and Finance at the end of the Fall 2017 semester. Former Vice president of finance and administration, Louis Spiro, has taken over the position on an interim basis.

Willis was appointed vice president of administration and finance in 2012, taking over for Spiro in the position. He came to Brockport after serving as the vice president of University Support Services at the University of Buffalo, where he had spent six years.

With Willis stepping down from his position, his predecessor, Spiro, is stepping back into the role as an interim. Spiro spent 33 years working at the college and is a Brockport graduate himself.

As for the search, the college is working with an external employment agency, Storbeck-Pimentel, to find candidates for the job. Where the college could ask a dean to take the next step in the search for a new provost, the vice president of administration and finance could come from a wider range of experience.

“I think it’s an interesting job,” Chief Communications Officer David Mihalyov said. “For this position, since it’s such a wide ranging portfolio, there’s not necessarily one kind of position you go to and say ‘hey, are you ready for this?’ That’s why I think we’re fortunate to be using a search firm that has national contacts that are going to help us find some really qualified candidates.”

Mihalyov, who is the chair of the search committee, says that the plan is to hire a new vice president of admissions and finance by July 1, which he notes is the informal start of the new school year. From here, the new vice president can settle in and take on the new year from the very beginning. Mihalyov said that the candidates will come to campus in late April or early May, if all goes according to plan.

The vice president of administration and finance is responsible for overseeing the college’s budget, facilities and human resources. The position also oversees construction on campus.
