The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) music director Ward Stare will be conducting a program at The College at Brockport. The performance will be held on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m., and will include works from Strauss and Dvorák. This isn’t the first time the RPO has perfomed at Brockport, as they hold an annual concert. However, this will be the first concert at Brockport conducted by Stare.

“He brings a certain energy to the orchestra that is hard to define, but has been attracting new audience members,” Fine Arts Series Manager, Stuart Soloway said. “[He’s] a charming and a wonderful addition to the RPO.”

According to Soloway, the RPO has been holding events in conjunction with the Department of Theatre and Music Studies for almost 20 years, even providing adjunct lecturers and musicians for lectures and demonstrations.

The RPO is also famous for its commitment to education. According to its website, “enriching the community through music has been a top priority of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra since its founding in 1922.”

In the eyes of Soloway, the annual concert enriches the community.

“This is one of the rare events that takes place on campus that really hews to President Macpherson’s desire to have more community involvement,” Soloway said. “It gives them a chance to see a wonderful concert, not have to drive to Rochester and, quite honestly, our tickets are more affordable.”

The concert will be in a unique style that Stare has chosen, which isolates and blends instruments to showcase their unique sounds.

Tickets for the concert are $9 for students, $12 for seniors, alumni, faculty and staff, and $17 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased at brockportarts.universitytickets.com Soloway urges to buy tickets as soon as you can, as the concerts often sell out.
