Over the past two seasons, The College at Brockports’ women’s volleyball team has compiled an impressive record of 68 – 6, which has included two SUNYAC championship titles and two trips to the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Regional in which the team has won at least one match.

The volleyball team’s most recent success allocated a tough schedule that matched them up against some of the best Division III teams in the country, which is why the team has already lost five matches this season.

Defensive specialist Aimee Spilman was part of those championship teams and still has very high hopes for the remainder this season.

“As a program, we have continued to improve and are therefore competing against more ranked teams before conference play begins,” Spilman said. “The more games we play, the more we are molding from individual players to a team.”

Spilman, a native of Nassau, New York, is one of five seniors leading the team this year.  She has a total of 77 digs this season with 12 digs in two separate matches.

Believe it or not, the Brockport women’s volleyball team has yet to play any of its matches at home this season, unlike other fall sports teams. The team was had a record of 27-3 when playing at home the past two seasons, and having a home-court advantage for the past two SUNYAC tournaments and last year’s NCAA Regional was beneficial for the team.

Despite being away from home, Spilman has seen the team put up a good fight.

“We have been in and had a chance to win every game we have played so far,” Spilman said. “While the outcome may not have gone our way in the matches, seeing competition this good early on will only further prepare us for seeing the same caliber teams in the postseason.”

The Golden Eagles swept the University of Rochester Yellowjackets 3-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 13, and played in the Susquehanna Tournament over the weekend in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. On September 15, the team was swept by the Carnegie Mellon Tartans 3-0.  On Saturday, Sept. 16, the Golden Eagles lost to the Stevenson Mustangs 3-0 and the Susquehanna River Hawks 3-1.

Brockport will start playing teams in its conference this week at Fredonia State. The team will take on the Oswego Lakers on Friday, Sept. 22, and play matches against the Oneonta Red Dragons and the Fredonia Blue Devils on Saturday, Sept. 23.

The Golden Eagles will play at home a week from today, Wednesday, Sept. 27,  when they take on the D’Youville College Spartans.
