Last month four of our Golden Eagles were awarded a spot on the All-Area Team for the Rochester Area NCAA Division II-III Teams. The United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) placed senior forward Clifton Lyerly and junior guard Hamed Shamseldin on the Men's First Team. While Devonn Gavin was named to the Men's Honorable Mention Team and Hannah Rehbaum was named to the Women's Honorable Mention Team.

Shamseldin has been showing improvement since his sophomore season on The College Brockport men's basketball team where he averaged 14.8 points per game. This past season he averaged 15.1 points per game, 3.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists.

"It's an honor to be selected for the All-Area Team. It's a good feeling knowing all my hard work is paying off," Shamseldin wrote in an email.

He even tallied a season high 25 points against SUNY Geneseo at a home game on February 3. Shamseldin scored a total 400 points this season which was enough to land him ninth in scoring in the SUNYAC.

Having such a great season and then being placed on the All-Area Team for a second time was the icing on the cake.

"I'm going to work on my body and continue to get stronger so I can get through the season healthy because I know I am going to have to play my hardest every night," Shamseldin wrote when asked about his preparations for next season.

Clifton Lyerly was a senior captain for the Golden Eagles and averaged 15.4 points, 3.2 boards and 3.1 assists per night. Over the course of his career at Brockport Lyerly has shown his coring prowess stockpiling 1,351 points. Also showcasing his vision with 182 assists, Lyerly has had sticky fingers snagging 123 steals.

Devonn Gavin, a senior guard and a Rochester native earned yet another postseason award. Last season he was named to the SUNYAC All Conference team. As for this postseason he found a place on the Honorable Mention Team by the USBWA. This year Gavin shot well from the floor with a 45.3 percent from the field and 39.6 percent from three-point range. The 5' 11" guard has left a legacy of stellar play here at Brockport but Head Coach Greg Dunne is going to try his best to fill those shoes next season.

From the women's team, Hannah Rehbaum earned a spot on the Honorable Mention Team as well. Her senior campaign ended with her averaging 11.3 points, about seven rebounds and two assists per game. Rehbaum started in all 27 games and gave it her all every night.

"Being named to the All-Area Team was pretty cool. I thought I worked hard all season in a variety of ways to help the team be successful and my own individual success came out along the way. I wouldn't have as been able to accomplish what I did without my teammates," Rehbaum wrote.

She also has high hopes and aspirations to become a coach after college.

"I am hoping to go to grad school next year and have a grad assistant position with coaching. I've learned a ton about the game from playing and I want to continue my career with basketball but coaching this time," Rehbaum wrote in an email.

Her accomplishments as a great player will certainly translate to the coaching profession.
