After a slow start, The College at Brockport men's lacrosse team has finally found its stride. Saturday, April 1, the Golden Eagles faced off against the SUNY Potsdam Bears at 1 p.m. the Golden Eagles secured an overwhelming victory 16-7. This win breaks the team's tied win-loss ratio of 3-3.

This win against Potsdam was an important one for the team, as it was its first game in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). The men's lacrosse team performed well in last year's SUNYAC, securing the No. 2 seed and 4 - 2 overall season record Coach Ben Wineburg had this to say about his team's crucial win, "We are very happy with the win at Potsdam. We will continue to work hard everyday."

The first quarter ended in a 3-3 tie, but the Golden Eagles picked up the pace and ended the second quarter with a score of 4-1. The third quarter ended with another tie, this time it was 2-2 with the Golden Eagles just ahead of the Bears with a 9-6 tally. In the final quarter, the Brockport secured its win with a 7-1 score, all adding up to the 16-7 victory.

Sophomore Jake Recor scored the first goal for the Golden Eagles following an assist from senior Brendan Fitzgerald. Seniors Pete Barilla and Mark Robinson and juniors Zach Cook and Michael Caternolo all contributed to the victory by scoring goals. Junior Dallas Meyers was the goalie for this game and played for the entire hour-long runtime and made 10 saves.

This game is the third in a crushing win streak for the men's lacrosse team. The last three games have ended in a double digit win for the Golden Eagles and a single digit loss for its opponents. On March 19, the team played against Utica College with a winning score of 13-8. March 25, the Golden Eagles played against Lycoming Warriors in Williamsport, Pennsylvania with a score of 12-5.

In addition to the team's win in Williamsport, senior Jake Giudice became the all-time points leader for Brockport. Giudice was also named by SUNYAC as the Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week. In addition to Giudice, senior Conor Nowak was named by SUNYAC as the Men's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week.

The Golden Eagles have six more games in April and five of them are SUNYAC games. The team has only lost three games as of yet and these were close losses of just one point. The first game of the season against Alfred State College ended in a score of 10-11 and the second game against Clarkson University Golden Knights ended in a score of 6-7. Its fourth game of the season against St. John Fisher College Cardinals resulted in a score of 9-10.

Given the team's stellar performance this season, its expectations are high for the remainder. Their performance during the SUNYAC matchups will determine if the men's lacrosse team will continue on to play in the SUNYAC Tournament in May.

The Golden Eagles will play against Elmira College at the Bob Boozer field in Brockport at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5. They will play against SUNY Cortland Saturday, April 8 at 12:30 p.m.
