The 2016 United States presidential election was a historic one.

For some, the election served as a great victory in which their values and belief systems were assured amongst other wonderful and miraculous promises like the fabled "wall" to separate the U.S. from the formidable country of Mexico and the complete annihilation of terrorism.

However, for most of the country and arguably the world, the results of the 2016 election served as the beginning of the end for progression as they knew it. President Donald Trump's inauguration loomed over us like the blade of a guillotine, ready to drop down and wipe away the life of anyone who did not exclusively live according to the social standards of American culture in the 1950s.

While the majority of American citizens saw views held by Trump as severely detrimental, there were still many who, for some odd reason, believed he would be beneficial for our country - this article is for them.

Trump is well known for his ludicrous statements both before and during his role as president and has made the news over issues which were actually relevant to his role, such as meeting with representatives of other countries as well as other, more arbitrary situations, like golfing when he swore he wouldn't prior to winning the election.

Trump has recently made the news for doing something a lot more serious than breaking his oath to not vacation while president.

In a nutshell, Trump is currently being looked into by the FBI,  an investigation which has been in place since July 2016 - it has been confirmed that the Trump administration may have ties to the Russian government and these connections could have impacted or interfered with the results of the election.

Where did such a statement come from? Well, from the very mouth of the Director of the F.B.I. James Comey.

In The New York Times article, "Comey Confirms FBI Inquiry on Russia; Sees No Evidence of Wiretapping," by Matthew Rosenberg, Emmarie Huetteman and Michael S. Schmidt, Comey says "the FBI, as part of our counterintelligence effort, is investigating the Russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 president election."

The article went on to explain the investigation would also look into whether or not Trump's associates worked with Russian officials in suspected interference.

This is a big deal, not only for Trump himself who may have dug himself into a hole he cannot get out of, but for the American people overall.

Having our election process impacted by an entirely different nation is, at best, a little nerve-wracking and, at worst, a threat to our national security and the functionality of our governmental processes.

An article posted on The Hill, "FBI Investigating Trump-Russia Ties" by Katie Bo Williams, explained the investigation could have a very negative impact on Trump's presidency in regards to the trust and favorability of his administration with the American people. The article explains Trump is "already facing favorability numbers less than 40 percent."

It seems like this is a widely accepted notion, seeing as an article posted on The Guardian, "Donald Trump is under investigation for ties to Russia. What happens now?" by Spencer Ackerman illustrates the same idea.

"The allegations are no weather pattern, lasting for a finite time, but rather the climate for his presidency," Ackerman wrote in his article.

Trump is certainly one colorful person and although there were people who were under the illusion that there was some sort of positive change he could bring to the country, he has made it publicly known that he won't and has no intention of doing so.

Now we, as a country, must deal with the effects of having a man who decided to take his role as president the same as his role as CEO and do exactly what he did to his businesses: lie, manipulate and run it into the ground.
