This week's Brockport Student Government meeting began at approximately 4 p.m. with an opening announcement from BSG President Devin Bonner where she explained that she, along with several other BSG members, met with college president Heidi R. Macpherson to discuss various topics, including the strategic plan and how it has been implemented within the college.

Bonner also announced that 15 new BSG members would be appointed throughout the meeting.

President Bonner's announcement was followed by a report from each senator regarding their respective parties. Discussion touched on topics such as Club Craze, which saw exceptional results in student participation and interaction with clubs. Tabling was also discussed, which will be carried out by BSG throughout different buildings on campus and future club events which will be taking place within the upcoming weeks.

BSG will continue its "Green and Gold Friday," which serves as a way to increase school spirit. Any student wearing the school's colors on Fridays will receive a complimentary hat or scarf. In order to check which buildings members of BSG will be in, students can check either on Twitter or Facebook.

Jordan Pickett, director for advocacy, spoke on a current event that took place involving two unknown female students who wore blackface and posted a picture of themselves ona social media site with the caption "MLK died for this." Pickett explained the state of the situation as being investigated by The Office of Residential Life and Student Affairs. In addition to her announcement, Pickett explained there will be a student survey put out in order to establish the presence of her committee as well as get a better understanding of what students need and are looking for from both herself and her team.

Pickett also explained there will be a disability studies conference Thursday, Feb. 9, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Cooper Hall. A solidarity walk will be hosted in collaboration by The Movement and Brockport Muslim Student Association Monday, Feb. 6 at 12 p.m., beginning at the Seymour College Union in response to President Donald Trump's recent executive orders implementing a travel ban for people from any of seven predominantly Muslim countries.

After the senators spoke on behalf of their parties 15 new members were voted into joining BSG and three new clubs were recognized. The meeting concluded with amendments to several BSG bylaws and ended at approximately 6 p.m.
