  • Riots in Delhi leave dozens of Muslims dead

    On Sunday, Feb. 23, widespread riots broke out in the North East district of the capital city Delhi, India, as a result of growing Hindu nationalism and anti-Muslim sentiments within the country. The impetus for such violence came after Kapil Mishra, a local leader in the far-right Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), voiced threats directed toward Muslim protestors who were peacefully blocking a road as a demonstration against the recently passed Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

    Denzel Curry, an American rapper, singer and composer originally from Carol City, Florida, dropped the latest installment of his discography, a brief eight track album titled "UNLOCKED." The surprise project dropped on Friday, Feb. 7, as a joint album with frequent collaborator and close friend Kenny Beats, who has worked with countless other artists and is one of the most sought out producers in modern hip-hop.

  • Librada Paz: activism for undocumented farm workers

    On Tuesday, Feb. 12, in Eagles Lookout, The College at Brockport hosted an event sponsored by the American Democracy Project that featured Librada Paz, a venerated advocate for farmworkers' rights. Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, Paz had a harsh upbringing as she worked from a young age to help her impoverished family.

  • Bloomberg gets criticism over stop and frisk policy

    Michael Bloomberg, the infamous three term mayor of New York City, has generated a substantial buzz around his 2020 presidential campaign. Initially in March of 2019 he denied that he would run in the 2020 election, but has since thrown his hat into the ring as a Democratic candidate by officially launching his campaign on Nov. 24. 

  • Pete Rose still seeking the hall of fame

    In light of the recent Houston Astros cheating scandal, Pete Rose has restated his case for finally being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The recent fallout over the Astros sign-stealing scandal in the 2017 World Series has led to much public outcry, especially after Houston was fined a mere $5 million for its misconduct. Although many members of upper management have been suspended and/or fired, there are still some who believe these punishments are not sufficient. 

  • Doctor who warned about coronavirus now dead

    On Friday, Feb. 7, Dr. Li Wenliang died from contracting coronavirus after attempting to warn his peers and college classmates in the medical field about the disease. The 34-year-old ophthalmologist who was working in the Chinese city of Wuhan where the virus originated is now dead just a few weeks after being hospitalized for an infection.
